Alicia NY, Experimental Short Film, 2022-24, 3:06

Alicia NY is an experimental short film; a composition of personal footage filmed using a phone camera over a period of 6 months in New York. The audio features the track Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down (Alicia Keys, 2010) mixed and layered with five cover versions of the same track, released over a thirteen year period since the first version, Empire State of Mind (Jay Z ft. Alicia Keys, 2009). The artificially constructed choir weave in and out of sync, offering different renditions of the same thought repeating in cycles over time. Shot through fences, windows, from a distance, -the visual narrative offers the perspective of an outsider trying to piece together the remnants of a promised dream.
